About Bugatti Cars
 The Bugatti car company was founded in 1909, in Molsheim, France, by the Italian Ettore Bugatti, a talented designer and engineer, said by some to be an eccentric genius.
His cars were some of the most exclusive of the time, combining beautiful designs with precise engineering and superb performance. This was no surprise as Ettore came from a large and talented family who shared artistic talent and engineering genius way ahead of their time.
Grand Prix motor racing was in it's infancy, and Bugatti enjoyed much success on the racing circuit, winning the first ever Monaco Grand Prix in 1929 with the Type 35B. Perhaps their greatest achievement was winning the Le Mans 24 hour twice in 1937 and 1939. The Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans is named after Ettore Bugatti and forms part of the track still used today for the famous 24 hour race.
Concentrating on quality rather than quantity, only a few examples of each of Ettore's cars were produced, probably the most famous were the Type 35 Grand Prix racing cars, the Royale, the Type 57 Atlantic and the Type 55 sports car. However, despite it's success on the track, and it's beautiful cars, Bugatti, like many of it's rivals was ruined by World War II.
Bugatti struggled on into the 1960's, but was eventually bought, primarily for it's aircraft parts business. Today the name is owned by Volkswagen AG who purchased the right to manufacture cars with the Bugatti marque in 1998, in a shopping spree that also saw them purchase Lamborghini, Rolls Royce (Crewe) and Bentley.
In December 2000 Volkswagen formed Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. as a successor to the famous Bugatti company and continue to make limited edition, production sports cars of high specifications, under this famous marque.
